Sikaflex 268 is an adhesive system specially designed for the railway industry. Suitable for assembly work and gluing windows . Its exceptional weather resistance and exceptional resistance to a wide range of cleaning agents make it ideal for grouting external joints in the railway industry.
Sikaflex 268 is compatible with Sika's black-primerless process. Sikaflex 268 can be accelerated by using Booster Paste or PowerCure System.
SCOPE OF APPLICATION
Sikaflex 268 is intended for assembly and glazing applications in railway industry , the commercial vehicle industry and on repair market . Its properties allow for easy application and smoothing. Due to its exceptional resistance to a wide range of cleaning agents combined with its excellent resistance to weather conditions, it can be used for exterior joints.
The manufacturer's advice should be sought and tests performed on original substrates before using Sikaflex 268 on materials susceptible to stress cracking. Sikaflex 268 is for experienced professional users only. Testing with actual substrates and conditions should be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.
PRODUCT ADVANTAGES
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Sikaflex 268 is generally resistant to plain water, seawater, dilute acids and dilute alkaline solutions; temporarily resistant to fuels, mineral oils, vegetable and animal fats and oils; not resistant to organic acids, glycolic alcohol, concentrated mineral acids and caustic alkaline solutions and solvents.
It is resistant to a wide range of rail vehicle cleaners when used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Some vehicle cleaners contain aggressive chemicals such as phosphoric acid which can significantly affect the durability of Sikaflex 268. It is therefore very important to keep exposure time to a minimum, maintain the correct dilution of the cleaner and rinse thoroughly after the cleaning process. Newly introduced cleaning agents must be tested.

COLLECTIVE PACKAGING:
Surface preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of grease, oil and dust. Additional surface preparation depends on the specifics of the substrate and is crucial for a long-term bond. All stages of surface preparation must be confirmed by preliminary tests on original substrates, taking into account the specific conditions in the assembly process.
App
Sikaflex 268 can be applied between 10 °C and 40 °C (ambient and product) but changes in reactivity and application properties should be considered. The optimal temperature of the substrate and adhesive is between 15 °C and 25 °C.
The product shows an increase in viscosity at low temperature. To facilitate application, condition the adhesive at ambient temperature before use. To ensure a uniform thickness of the joint, it is recommended to apply the adhesive in the form of a triangular bead.
Sikaflex 268 can be applied by hand, pneumatic or electric piston gun or pump. The open time is much shorter in hot and humid climates. Components should always be glued within the open time. Never glue parts after the glue has built a skin.
Smoothing and finishing
Smoothing must be done within the open time of the adhesive. It is recommended to use Sika Tooling Agent N for smoothing. Other smoothing agents must be tested for suitability and compatibility beforehand.
Removal
Uncured Sikaflex 268 can be removed from tools and equipment with Sika Remover 208 or another suitable solvent. After curing, the material can only be removed mechanically. Hands and exposed skin should be washed immediately using hand towels such as Sika Cleaner 350H or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water. Do not use solvents on the skin.
